Close up photo of hull crazing before treatment - found on many of the early boats that have been to the mediteranean

These are photographs of the hull of St Brigid, built 1970.  She spent many years in the med and suffered UV degradation to the outer layer of gelcoat.  It is purely cosmetic but unsightly.  I have seen this on several other Rivals, all of which having a similar history.  I am currently treating this, first by an aggressive sanding to reduce the appearance of the crazing and give a good key to the paint.  This has been followed by 4 coats of high build two pack epoxy primer filler, with sanding back between each coat.  This should form a stable barrier for the topcoat to key to.  Seven thin coats of topcoat have been applied, with an increasing depth of colour and gloss appearing.  I will write a full article about this is the near future.
