Local Groups 2010:

East Coast:

The East Coast Summer Meet will this year be at Shotley Marina, River Orwell on 24/25 September. The critical time is 1900 on the Saturday evening for dinner in the Shipwreck. HW is around 1330 BST. It would be nice if we could start to assemble soon after lunchtime. I have arranged a special mooring rate and the ROA will subsidise our supper so there is no excuse! We missed out on our Winter Lunch this year (because I was too busy to arrange it – sorry), so please come if you can. It is always a really enjoyable weekend. If you hope to attend please contact me with the following info at least two weeks beforehand. Email is best (eric.orme at audience.co.uk) with the following information: Name of boat, Your name, Numbers for the meal.

South Coast:

Chris Hyde has arranged this year's Folly Meet for the 12th and 13th of June. He has moved it later this year by two weeks as a number of people last year said they could not attend because it clashed with the bank holiday and school half term. He is sure he will have got it wrong again this year as some of you lucky people head off for the summer! Any members from other areas are of course welcome to sail in and join us. You will find a booking form here. Please contact Chris Hyde with any questions - email here.

James Pickford has fixed the autumn South Coast dinner on 13th November, again at Itchenor SC. If there is sufficient demand (there is very good B&B at club) he will organise some form of bird watching tour of the harbour on Sunday with the Conservancy.  James is also looking for several speakers who can each give a 10 minute presentation of their sailing in 2010 (short and sweet, up to 20-30 photos projected in a Powerpoint presentation). He is also seeking your best photos for inclusion in a calendar. (The calendar competition is open to all ROA members, not just the South Coast group.  Extra credit will be given if the ROA flag is very visible!  There will be more details later and you can contact James by email here.

West Country:

The West Country group will have its usual spring and autumn meets this year, at Salcombe on May 8th/9th and Fowey on September 25th/26th. After assembling on the visitors' pontoon during the Saturday afternoon, there will be a dinner in the evening at the SYC and the RFYC, as before. Contact Terry Williams for further details.

There will be an additional summer meet during 17th/18th July at Charlestown, Cornwall which we hope will attract other Rivals that are cruising in the western Channel. Charlestown is a small, tidal port that is home to a number of square rigged ships. Our meet there in 2007 was very popular. See charts and contact details here and for information about Charlestown port go to www.square-sail.com

Irish Sea:

Roger Chisholm reports that he will contact his local group members before long to see whether a meal for those in the vicinity of the Menai Straits and wider N Wales coast is of any interest to anyone either this spring or, more likely, in the autumn.  In late June his R36 Liberty will be heading north from Port Dinorwic to spend July and August in the west coast of Scotland. Please contact him if you would like to make it a cruise in company for any of the time.

Scotland:

There will be a Scottish meet on the weekend of May 29-30th in the Lagoon at Ardfern, Loch Craignish. Please confirm your participation by May 5th. See here for chart and contact details.

Netherlands:

On Saturday April 24, 2010 the Netherlands group will meet in Almere/Haven at 1200 for lunch and a boat tour. There will be lots of time to renew relations and meet new Dutch members. Members from other countries are also welcome! Please advise Jannie Clement at jclement@casema.nl if you wish to attend.

Our end-of-season event will be in Lelystad, Batavia-Haven, IJsselmeer, on Sept.25/26, 2010.  The programme will be: 1600 - visit to a small brewery, followed by beer tasting, and then: 1800 - dinner at Batavia-Harbour, Koekoekbierbrouwerij, Happerij en Tapperij.  Please contact Jannie Clement at  jclement@casema.nl for further information and to reserve places in the harbour and at the dinner.

Belgium

Proposals for a spring meeting received little response, so Robert will try again to arrange something later in the year.

North America:

We are spread quite far and wide with members on both the East Coast and  West Coast, the Great Lakes, and British Columbia.  Because of the distances separating us, we have not made plans for a rally this year, but I am open to suggestions and ideas how to better become interactive.  Perhaps some regional "drive-in" meets are in order.  Please let me (Rob Johnson) have your ideas.
