We had an enjoyable dinner and lots of socialising at the Royal Fowey. The weather was very unsettled, with just a brief respite on Saturday afternoon. We had 18 from eight Rivals at the dinner but only R32 Lontano sailed, from Plymouth. Yachts from east of Plymouth needed to leave on Friday but would have had fresh to strong headwinds for 35-50 miles; the R38 that tried to leave Salcombe that day turned back at the harbour bar. Yachts coming from Falmouth, to the south-west, were faced with a forecast SW'ly gale for Sunday and so prudently also took to their cars.

The autumn rally will be during the weekend of 27/28th September, in the Yealm.
